Xiaomi Announces Mi Max 2, Huge, Affordable and Long Lasting (5,300mAh)

Xiaomi has announced its new smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Max 2. The monstrous-sized phone is released exactly one year after the Mi Max, its renowned predecessor.

Without any doubts, the Mi Max 2 is one of the most exciting premieres of this year. The newest model of the Chinese supercompany will sport the following specifications:

  • 6.44″ 1080p Screen (342PPI)
  • Full metal body
  • 5300mAh battery (QuickCharge 3.0 enabled)
  • Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET)
  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64 or 128GB of Storage
  • IR Blaster
  • USB Type-C
  • Rear fingerprint sensor
  • Stereo sound (front grill and bottom speakers when in landscape mode)
  • Dual-SIM or SIM+MicroSD combo
  • 12Mp SONY IMX386 Camera sensor f2.2 (Same as Mi6 primary sensor)
  • 53% thinner "black edges" around the screen
  • Headphone jack

The Mi Max 2 is a compelling device for fans of big smartphones. The only drawback might be the Snapdragon 625 which is an older CPU that's ultimately a step back for Xiaomi, even if battery life would greatly benefit from its A53 core implementation. Apart from that, everything looks fine and the enormous battery should provide enough juice to last at least two full days of intensive usage, being even larger than that of the Mi Power Bank.

Xiaomi didn't follow the trend to remove the headphone jack, which makes complete sense given the markets and demographics this phone targets. Owners of quality earphones will not have to worry.

The price of the Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is set at 1699 RMB ($250) for the 64 GB variant and 1999 RMB ($290) for the 128 GB variant. The device is being sold in China, though availability will most likely expand to the usual markets Xiaomi is fond of targeting.

What do you think of Mi Max 2? Are you planning to get that smartphone? Let us know in the comments.
