Huawei announced that its P10 and P10 Plus models will come to Canada starting June 6. Huawei originally announced back in February that these two smartphones would be made available in Canada, but only now do we have an exact release date.
Four major Canadian carriers will include Huawei's flagship P series devices in their offerings. Rogers will exclusively carry the P10 Plus. Bell, Videotron, and Fido will be carrying the P10 in black. At launch, Rogers will carry the P10 in gold and black. Rogers will also carry the P10 and P10 Plus exclusively in blue later this summer.
"We are excited to be working with Rogers, Bell and Videotron in bringing these fantastic new smartphones to Canada. This is a huge step forward in positioning Huawei in the Canadian device market," said Felix Li, President, Huawei Devices Canada.
"Our new P10 line weaves together the exceptional imaging capabilities of Leica with our stand-out design and hardware innovations to bring users a powerful mobile experience."
Both phones have pretty similar hardware specifications. The smaller model, P10, sports a 5.1-inch Full HD screen, octa-core Kirin 960 CPU, Mali-G71 MP8 GPU, 32 GB of storage, 4GB of RAM and 3,200 mAh battery. Huawei P10 Plus features a larger 5.5-inch QHD panel and more spacious 3,750mAh battery. Finally, the P10 Plus model has a slightly sharper f/1.8 lens compared to P10's f/2.2 one.
Huawei will have to face stiff competition from Samsung, LG, Apple and others already selling in Canada. Neither Huawei nor the carriers provided any pricing details of the two devices, though, so we can't say yet how competitive the devices will be in the Canadian market.
