Hello - I am moving from an iPhone to an Android and decided to get an HTC One M8. I am new to the community and the concepts of unlocking/rooting etc so I apologize for the basic questions. I've been searching forums and I'm not sure I've found a clear answer so I thought I'd ask directly.
I bought the device as an unlocked international GSM device - that was what was advertised. I just got it and went to update it and I get the message Variant software detected - unable to OTA update.
I'd like to get the phone up to Android 6 Marshmallow. It is currently 5.0.1. I'd prefer the OTA updates to work but I don't mind learning how to manually flash new versions.
Here is the information from the fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version: 0.5
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 3.19.0.0000
(bootloader) version-baseband: 1.25.214500021.06G
(bootloader) version-cpld: None
(bootloader) version-microp: None
(bootloader) version-main: 4.16.401.10
(bootloader) version-misc: PVT SHIP S-OFF
(bootloader) serialno: FA44AWM03313
(bootloader) imei: 358718050628804
(bootloader) imei2: Not Support
(bootloader) meid: 00000000000000
(bootloader) product: m8_ul_ca
(bootloader) platform: hTCBmsm8974
(bootloader) modelid: 0P6B12000
(bootloader) cidnum: 11111111
(bootloader) battery-status: good
(bootloader) battery-voltage: 0mV
(bootloader) partition-layout: Generic
(bootloader) security: off
(bootloader) build-mode: SHIP
(bootloader) boot-mode: FASTBOOT
(bootloader) commitno-bootloader: 3aa067db
(bootloader) hbootpreupdate: 11
(bootloader) gencheckpt: 0
all: Done!
From the product m8_ul_ca it looks like the phone is actually an AT&T (US) - Is that correct?
The MID here is 0P6B12000 but on the back of the phone it is 0P6B100. I'm not sure why there's a discrepancy or if that matters.
The CID is 11111111.
From my research I understand I need to find a proper firmware variant and flash it and then I need to find the proper ROM variant and flash it as well.
Is that correct?
I'm not sure what variant I should look for since the MID in the vars and on the phone disagree. If someone could help get me figure out what variant(s) I should use and the point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.
If there's a simpler way to get the OTA update to work I'm all ears.
Thanks in advance for your help.
